I've developed trigger finger tendon-sheath contracture in the middle finger of my left hand, with the result that I am unable to grip a golf club. Any ideas, other than surgery, to enable me to get play ing again ?

Long periods of rest and physical therapy ( with a sports injury expert ). You might recover somewhat if you're lucky. Unless you wish to cripple your hand, I would not play any more golf or other type of sports requiring gripping A HANDLE and absorbing shock waves from impact.

FWIW, my wife gets the same thing and asked her doctor about it. He claimed it was not a serious surgury and she'd bounce right back from it with no issues. Maybe someone else can advise that has been through it. Jeff

I have it in the middle finger of my left hand. I got 2 cortisone injections about a month apart and the symptoms are almost completely gone. I was having extreme difficulty, not so much with golf, but with playing guitar. I do music ministry at Church and it was a real issue. Things are good now. BTW - my surgeon told me that if I needed the sheath surgery, it was no big deal - outpatient - just takes a few minutes - a few stitches and you're good to go in a few weeks.

Thanks for your input. Have consulted a Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon and he says condition may well improve - no reason to cease playing golf assuming actually able to grip club. Use anti-inflammatory medication plus decent glove e.g Bionic. If no improvement, next step is cortizone injection - if that's unsuccessful surgery will be necessary.

When it actually stops raining here in the U.K. !!! I'm keen to see if my newly purchased Bionic golf glove helps - even if it keeps me playing golf it won't help as far as playing my banjo goes - that's a definite non-starter until I get my finger back to anything like normal.

Surgery is the only sure cure. I had it done on my left hand back in September 2006. Surgery took less than 20 minutes and I have had no problems. Lew

I have a problem with my right hand index finger not from golf but from all the web surfing. Not kidding here.
