He just graduated from UVA on a 4 year golf scholarship. He was heavily recruited for basketball too but he decided to stick with just golf. He was also an honor roll student throughout his career at UVA. Here is a couple of his latest tournament results. His name is Bruce Woodall

Finished 37th individually (team finished 22nd) in the NCAA Championship this year

Northeast Amateur: Finished 5th. Started slow but played -7 over the last 2 days. BTW in case you're wondering the par on the course they played was 69.

http://www.ghintpp.com/riga/TPPOnlineScoring/ResultsStroke.aspx?id=87

The Dogwood Invitational: Finished 2nd. Shot under par all 4 days including an 8 under 64 the 2nd day.

North & South Amateur: Missed getting into a playoff for the final spot(s) for match play by 2 strokes

http://www.golfstatresults.com//public/leaderboards/player/static/player3474_cut.html

Was medalist at local qualifier for US Open this year (didn't make it through sectionals)

http://www.virginiasports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=17800&ATCLID=205427639

Qualified for US Amateur last year and was medalist at sectional qualifier but didn't make it to match play (qualifying for this year's us am hasn't started yet)

Best of all he's a great kid and very humble. He is considering turning pro after this year's US Amateur but hasn't decided yet.

About my niece...she will be starting her senior year at Appalachian State and will graduate with a BS in nursing. She plans to continue on to become a nurse anesthetist.

This just proves that many of our kids these days ARE achievers. My other niece graduated from App State summa cum laude and currently works for Red Hat, Inc software company.

I actually saw him play at the Dogwood. I think that 64 was the low round of the week. Nearly would've won that one, had a putt or two dropped for him over the last few holes.

He had his chances. Burned more lips then a blind dentist over the last 5 or 6 holes.

His chip onto 17 in the final round was one of the best shots I've ever seen there...he had NO chance after that tee shot but dang near holed it out!!!! I told somebody sitting with me what shot he needed to hit, which was a "hit the stick to slow down the ball" shot....and sure enough, that is precisely what Bruce did. Tell him I was SO impressed by that one.

He had a great attitude though he must have been very frustrated.

That's awesome that you got to see him play blader (I knew you were from Atlanta). I will tell him about that shot...that should freak him out lol!

I meant to ask him if he knew a good corporate patent attorney.

I'll ask him when he comes back in 2 months after he leaves and never comes back again. In 2 months.

Yep...still haven't had the opportunity to play a round with him yet as he is always gone playing tournaments, but have talked golf with him during holiday get togethers.

Hope he makes it big on the PGA Tour (maybe free tickets to Majors).

Impressive stuff, including the degree from UVA. That is a great part of the country down there...my brother and his wife currently reside in Charlottesville. IN fact, he just started a new job at UVA this week.
