So is there such a thing? I want to build a set of black iron heads (minimalish offset) but would like them to hold up finish wise is there such a thing.

Main ones on my list to try are below.

DTG PI-25: tried but finish started wearing after a couple of range visits. This is a shame plays good and very inexpensive. Contemplating building a couple of duplicate irons for range visits and full set for actual play.

KE4 Tour 2012:

Haven't heard much about the KE4's but I did hear a lot about he Prophet Tours wearing on the sole pretty easily. Not sure what all types of black treatments are out there but I've really liked the way the TA7 gunmetal clones I play have worn, or not worn. Probably can't find them though but here is a link http://www.pinemeadowgolf.com/golf-clubs/irons/irons.i3007q They have what they call a Melonite finish, so not sure what other irons have this.

These irons don't match your minimalish offset request very well, but I thought someone else reading this line (who would like a bit of offset and a black iron) would maybe be interested. I'm currently playing Laser X Black irons from Sun Valley Golf (http://www.sunvalleygolf.us/SV-3052). The picture shows that the soles are not black so I ordered them, thinking that I would not have to worry about wearing the black off of the soles. I was surprised and disappointed when I received them because the soles were indeed black. I was again a bit disappointed when after just a couple of rounds, the soles were "a bit dulled." I have been pleasantly surprised since then by the fact that they have not shown any further wear. Even my sand wedge, after numerous shots out of the greenside bunkers, has not shown any dramatic wear. They are offered in 431 stainless and 304 stainless. Mine are 431 stainless. I like the feel of 304 stainless but I thought if I got them they would show wear much quicker due to the softer 304 alloy. My last set of irons were polished 304 stailess (not black) and they showed a lot of wear fairly quickly.

I'm surprised to hear you say that about the Laser X Black irons from SVG, because I sell those in my shop and they wear just as bad if not worse than any of the other black-finish irons that I have. The HH posted above does hold up pretty well though; I have a buddy who plays a set of those and here in AZ clubs tend to take a beating and his still look pretty nice.

Unfortunately all black clubs all going to show wear on the sole since that part of the club makes repeated contact with the ground, and they're going to wear even quicker if you use them at a range where they fill in the hitting areas with sand. The only black clubs that aren't going to show a lot of wear are those which have a chrome sole, but I don't know of any like that which I would qualify as "minimal offset". I would say the HH's would be your best bet, and they are VERY nice clubs too!
