More hate than love, I'm afraid. Between my shots, and watching my playing partners, it seems that some most impressive shots come from hybrids, but that there is more variation in the results with them too. Sort of like a home run hitter who strikes out a lot. Is that what I need in that spot in the bag? I would be better off with a mediocre contact hitter. 5 iron, dust yourself off, you are back in the lineup.

Try a hybrid with one flex softer than your normal shaft flex in use. You will be surprised !

I play the Adams A7 irons. I like the way the 5 iron blends with the hybrid 3 & 4. Anything higher than a 4 hybrid is just to iffy for me. Too many nasty hooks or nuked approaches over the green.

I've never had any luck with hybrids. I've tried them a few times and always go back to FW's. I did hit the Adams AOS or whatever they're called inside at GS,and they felt good and it seemed like I was hitting them well,so maybe I'll give one another try.

Go Adams and try a softer flex. My A4OS 4H and 5H are money!

I think the biggest problem with most hybrids is that they are too long and light for many of us. Your 5i may be 38" with a 110g steel shaft, but you buy a 5h and it's 39" and has a 65g shaft...and sometimes doesn't have enough loft. You can flush a few long high shots with it, but you can't stay on plane and hit it consistently so it's only real use may be for chipping around the greens. I haven't completely figured out the hybrid thing yet, but I do better with them when they are the same (or only 1/2" longer) than the iron it replaces and has a heavier shaft. If you do go for a hybrid I'll 2nd the Wishon models. They seem to have a type for almost everyone in terms of iron like or wood like and they can be weighted for any length. The 331h is probably my favorite although the 775HS is hotter.

I had a set of the A2 OS hybrid irons in senior flex. I measured them on my frequency meter and they were off the chart on the low end, way below ladies flex. They were easy to hit if I didn't care about dispersion. My current R flex Ping G20 27* breaks down this way: Flex 3.1 on PCS scale, which is between L and A. 39", C9. I put my bigger grip on it last night and will give it another whirl.

I end up using them more for the "utility" aspect, like bump and runs, or just banging it out from tree roots rather than replacing a long iron. Because of that, it might make it into the trunk, but not into the bag.

I don't have time to practice. I use them, 1/2 flex softer with a smooth 70 percent swing. And, I hit them well and distance and accuracy is on par with my irons.

I can certainly understand what is being said here about hybrids. I would agree that finding fairway metals that work for you (and you may have to try a few) is the way to go for the long fairway shots. But, there is also a place for hybrids (for me at least) in the 3-5 iron range. There are about three kinds of hybrid heads, as far as I can tell. Those that more resemble fairway metal heads, those that are much closer to irons, and those that are in the middle. You just have to find the head that works for you. As for the shaft concern, I also agree. "Fortunately" I play 90-95 grams in my iron shafts (an older guy), and I can therefore use 80 grams in a hybrid without too much of a stretch. Adams is great, but so are many of the heads from Hireko (see the thread about the new Caiman X2).
