After reading one of the tee selection posts, I began to wonder how people accomodate for courses that are not Par 72s. Around here, we have a lot of par 70s or 71s. Obviously a par 70 course would play longer than par 72 of the same distance. In my head, I picked 200 yds as a distance per stroke. To me it is about the average difference in length between a par3 and a par4. So, is a par70; 6000yd course equal to say par72;6400yds?

I'm sitting in front of a Ford Dealer Service dept. waiting for them to open - have to get my work vehicle serviced. As to your OP haven't really thought about it much. I just play.

I personally don't look at "par" when I decide what tees to play, I look at course length and par 3 lengths.

ORIGINAL: golfnut2400 I find it easier to break 80 on a par 70 than a par 72 course. Yardage is not interesting (within reason) Took the words right out of my mouth!!...

A par 70/71 has one or two fewer par fives usually. So I would use 125/150 per stroke.

course rating and course slope are the real factors.. A Par 70 course means nothing if its actually rated < 70 A Par 72 course can actually be rated lower as well, resulting in an "easier" to play course that is rated > 72 http://www.leaderboard.com/abcs.htm Yardage gets interesting once you get 6500+ yards, with a course slope of .. oh lets say.. 125 or more
