I've been a part of this forum for many, many years and wanted to share with you a very personal story that's finally had a happy ending for my family, especially my son Nathan (now 12). I'm posting this more for hope for any of you out there struggling with health issues and battling against the health care system that will swallow you up or just simply let you fall through the cracks if you let it happen. This is about my son, Nathan, who battled over 2 years to get better from a concussion that he suffered while playing football with his Dad, me (Jim) in January, 2010. I've been through it and offer my insight and support to any of you who are suffering by seeing a loved one battle any kind of health issue that seems hopeless. As far as I'm concerned there's not much more tragic than seeing one of your children suffer and to have them look at you to find the solution and not have success while trying many, many things. Thankfully our story has found a solution AND he is recovering nicely at the time of this writing. Here's a link to the article: Young baseball player comes back from concussion Sincerely, Jim -

Jim Amazing story, I'm glad Cymbalta seems to be doing the trick! We know so little about the brain, but the doc that thought of trying that is a genius.

Thank you all for your kind words, if any of you are parents you certainly would've done what my wife and I had done -- so we're nothing special here. I just want people to know that "never giving up" is the standard "no matter what obstacles you may encounter" and I'm here to help/offer support for anyone feeling down and not knowing where to turn to in order to get help. I've been told by some that my son Nathan will be able to overcome anything that he's up against in life due to what he's been through and I can understand that. There were times that I had to really stand up for him in ways that were unbelievable when going up against the "medical professionals" but please understand they are only human too, and that was hard for my wife and I to understand, that some were not miracle workers, but eventually we did find the "right" ones and that's when we knew he'd make it. It requires finding the right pieces of the puzzle much like we did and never ceasing to make calls or contacts in order to find these folks for which we are forever grateful for helping us get Nathan back to where he belongs on the baseball field playing ball again!
