ORIGINAL: sdandrea1 I played with 9 clubs yesterday for the 1st time (after prompting by Mr. Minimalist Scotts33). My loft gaps were: 10.5 driver to 24 hybrid = 13.5 24H to 30.5 6i = 13.5 30.5 6i to 38 8i = 7.5 38 8i to 42 9i = 4 42 91 to 46 W = 4 46 W to 50 UW = 4 50 UW to 54 SW = 4 Only consistency is in the scoring clubs - it worked out well as I shot what I 'normally' shoot and did not really notice the missing 4 clubs. Truth be told majority of players midcap to highcap can't hit a 13, 14, 15, 16 degree frwy club. From my experience as a club fitter/maker most don't make consistent contact til we get to 17* or more. Why carry a frwy wood that you continually miss hit? Think about how many times you make consistent contact off the turf with one of these....now from the tee I understand it but not a tight lie on the turf. because of that I quit carrying 3 woods YEARS ago. I have found that my wife's old 17 degree square Adams A3OS '3' wood is very EZ for me to hit, so I usually carry it. Yesterday, I didn't miss it tho and I only used the 4H for 2nd shots on the 5 pars. It was plenty. I just ordered a LaJolla fairway head - - it's a 20 degree ladies 5/7 wood (I assume it;s weighted like a '6' wood - I'll find out when it arrives so I can trim the shaft correctly). Anyway, I have hopes that it might be a better gap filler between the Driver and the 6 iron. I also ordered a LaJolla 12 degree driver head that I'm going to shaft with a Aldila VooDoo senior flex. Experiments abound!

Lots of the time I go from 11* driver (use 11* because of my + AofA and 14* launch angle don't need more loft) to a 20* Wishon 730CL Long Frwy. I don't miss a lower lofted frwy unless I am on a course with long par 3's of 200 yards and more and I can tee it up.

Prior to the jacking of lofts in the mid-eighties or whenover, almost nobody bagged a fairway wood with less than 17° loft. These are the lofts actually stamped on my early eighties Taylormade "Pittsburgh Persimmon" 1st generation metalwood set: Driver: 12° 3-wood: 17° 4-wood: 20° 5-wood: 23° The OEMs call 23° a NINE-wood now.

I have 2 bags with 4-PW,SW,LW Great Big Bertha's tu-ti irons. One has a Geek DCT 12 driver, DCT 5 & 7 woods. The other has a 9 degree FT-i driver, 13 degree FT-i driver, and a FT-i 3 wood.I can hit the 13 degree driver out of the first cut rough. Its a great club. I have the Geek bag for walking a course or for travel. The FT-i bag is a cart bag and status here in PA mostly.
