The last couple of years it seemed like I didn't have the distance I used to on irons or woods. I had pretty much lost at least 1 club of distance. In addition my control has gotten as bad or worse. I was at the range a week ago with my 6yr old son and I was just crushing the ball with good consistency, and I wasn't quite sure what I was doing different. (We were hitting off the upper deck mats and I was keeping an eye on him to make sure he didn't fall off. ). I played 9 holes on Sunday morning and wasn't hitting it as well, except on the last hole I hit a perfect 8i approach shot which felt just like at the range. I noticed on that shot that I had dropped my left shoulder lower during my turn.

I went out today and tried to do this on every shot and I got a huge improvement in control and distance too. I am definitely a 1 plane swinger, and I guess I am getting my shoulders on the right plane with this change. It feels like I can really use my left latissimus dorsi to start the downswing, which then gets me pushing off on my back foot, and in general it is going straight and far. On my woods my 5w was going about 200 and today it was going at least 20 yards further. I didn't even pull out driver today. My iron distances did increase but not as much, but that is OK, I was getting very good contact and my distance was more consistant.

I love the fact that today it felt easy to strike the ball well. My score was good but not great (didn't get putts to drop, had approaches bounce over the green, made a couple bad choices) but it feels like now that I have fixed this flaw I have a chance to score this well every time out with a lot of room to really improve as I focus on the small details.

my visual image is my shoulders are a propeller and my spine is the shaft it turns on. I get the same results as you. MUCH more consistent and longer too.
