As you should be aware, touring pros make virtually all of their income from endorsement contracts with the major golf club brands. Every year you will see them switch brands, and not because they have found better equipment but because they are offered more money by another company. They typically have their equipment significantly modified from the specifications of the golf clubs you would purchase in a pro-shop or golf store so that the clubs they play have very little in common with what the brand they are endorsing actually offers to the public. We have never played this marketing game which we consider nothing short of lying to the consumer and, consequently, do not offer endorsement contracts to professional golfers to play our equipment.

That being said, our golf clubs have been played on tour by Jaacob Bowden (professional golfer and long drive champion) although we have never paid him to do so. In fact, he purchased his clubs from us just like anyone else back in 2007 when he was an amateur golfer struggling to lower his 14 handicap (he has since posted scores on tour in the 60's). Jaacob's is an interesting story of a man with a dream of becoming a professional golfer and his hard fought path to realize that dream. He is the subject of this newsletter and the link below will take you to his website (SwingMan Golf) where he provides an in-depth analysis of Single-Length golf clubs in comparison to conventional golf clubs. I highly recommend that you follow this link to learn his whole story and benefit from the proven techniques he has developed to increase swing speed and overall ball striking proficiency.

Jaacob came into my shop back when i was in Pacific Grove, California (Pebble Beach area). He was struggling with his long drives using a 7* SMT 455 Deep Bore. Said he felt he could get more distance out of his drives. I had him take a couple swings on the launch monitor. 134mph swing speed and higher than optimum launch angle. He noticed a book on my counter that i had just finished reading. "The search for the 300 yard drive" by Phil Reed. "I'm in that book" he says. He opened it to the page that had his picture. Son of a gun, it was him. Got him to sign the pic.
We went to Laguna Seca Golf Course so i could see his ball flight in action. On the 5th tee (elevated) he let loose his drive. When we got to his ball it was obvious that the only fresh plug mark was in front of his ball. He had backed it up by about three feet. I ended up building him a 4 degree Alpha C830-2. We went back to Laguna Seca.
The 15th green is a par five, dogleg right, over water that most players will lay up to. Their second shot will put them on an island and from there they'll third shot to the green. Jaacob drove from the back of the black tees and punched his tee shot to the back of the island. 370+ yards. His second shot went to the green.
At the time i was swinging around 103-105 mph at best. This was after reading Phil's book and watching some of Mike Austin's videos on Youtube. I asked Jaacob if he could teach me "the swing". He gave me an impromptu lesson, explaining the general form of the swing and the importance of keeping "loose hands" and relaxed arms.
I eventually clocked several 115mph swings and one at 119mph within a week of the lesson. My average today is still around 108mph without really trying. I'm 56 years old and have two discs gone in my lower back (ex-job related, not golf related).

Jaacob is a great teacher and a great friend.
