I have been looking for tickets to take my family to see my dad who will probably not make it past summer. I am looking to see if anyone has knowledge of how to get tickets cheaply. If I would fly next week or two, it would only cost me about $300 per ticket, round trip. But since we want to go back at the end of June, all tickets I can find online are over $600 roundtrip (and doesn't include baggage). Can anyone steer me in the right direction to find cheaper flights? Mahalo!

From Fresno, CA to Columbus, OH. I have tried orbitz, expedia, yahoo, etc and the airlines directly.

One more question....are you flying from Fresno or would you consider driving to SFO or San Jose to fly out of?

As FY stated, you can get a ticket far cheaper by flying out of SFO than Fresno. Cheaper to the tune of nearly 50%. Typically you will get the best fares flying mid-week, Tue - Thu.

I have looked at flying from SJO, OAK, SFO, LAZ, BUR, and ONT. The costs so far are not low enough to pay for the cost gas, etc to get to these airports. Will flights go down in prices the close it gets?

Have you tried priceline? I personally haven't used it but I have friends who rave about getting last minute deals.

Try this:

http://www.allegiantair.com/aaIndex.php

Start by going halfway down the left hand side to "Where we fly."

Then go to book a trip.

Some flights are as low as 20 bucks. Typically around 49 to 89.

They don't fly to major airports, and only on selected days, but if you catch it right, it's cheap.

Just play around with site, maybe you can find something that works for you or gets you closer.

Good luck.

Of course I do not know your exact dates but I have found $269 using Kayak and Cheapoair out of SFO in June and $294 out of SMF using cheapoair.

Just for grins I went to Southwest Airlines site and plugged in Oakland-Columbus-Oakland for Tuesday June 22 and returning Wed Jun 30

They showed 'web only' prices of $183 going and as low as $164 returning. And they don't charge for bags.

San Francisco instead of Oakland was a bit higher.

edit:
San Jose - Columbus averaged about the same as Oakland.

It figures that since I have asked for help, the prices are making a liar out of me now.

I was just on Southwest and from SFO to CMH a roundtrip was, tax and all, only $264 per person. That's well over half off of previously found costs.

Much Mahalo to all!
