Its not official; apparently its a leaked schedule, but only 23 events are scheduled for next year. http://www.golfweek.com/news/2009/nov/17/wegmans-sponsor-10-lpga-championship/ Check out the locations; 10 out of the 23 are not even in the U.S.A.

Unfortunately, for various reasons, the fan interest has waned and sponsors are leaving the ship like it was the Titanic. Pushing small children who are not ready to compete on viewers has its disadvantages if they do not turn out like female Tigers.

Ratings popped up well for the last few Wie-pisodes. That is, Solheim and Ochoa Invitational. quote:

Growth and growing interest in the LPGA is outside of the USA. What would you have them do in a market where all of the growth and growing interest is in pan Asia area? quote:

The long ands short of this is womens sports don't draw crowds in the USA with the possible exception of figure skating and every now and then tennis. The LPGA is no exception. Just look at the history of the WNBA, Womens Soccer etc. to see the financial reality of trying to promote womens events. If they are to survive they need to go where they can draw enough interest to pay the bills. The days of "charity sponsorships" which don't return bang for the buck are over until the next time we have a bubble economy and corporate leaders forget what they learned in business 101, i.e. you need ROI for expenditures.

Completely factual post with a ton of stuff that I have been saying ad nauseum, but people believe what they want. They believe some sort of Community College theory of brand "exposure" without understanding that fact is, winning players, and usually PGA, are the only ones pushing gear off the shelfs. I would be surprised to learn that any golf tourney without Tiger makes any ROI. I doubt NIKE would pay Wie more than a fraction of that contract if they know it was going to take until 20 years old and event 65 to get the first W. Pretty much another LPGA win as far as retail sales are concerned. quote:
