ORIGINAL: Potbunker SMT 3390 Listen to the man...he's tried just about everything that is out there, I think! Low Profile heads and Soft tip shafts do the trick. MacGregor NVG2 FWs & Wishon 949MCs are pretty good options IMHO. I like SK Fiber Tour Trac 80 shafts too.

3390 with the SK shaft was the first I thought of too. I didn't hit it as long as the NVG2, but it was certainly a high-launch and easy-to-hit club. Find a Purefit Voodoo if you can -- 3w headweight with high lofts. But . . . not being sarcastic here, but why a high-launch 3w? Why not just a 4w or 5w? There are many aspects of a club that can give higher launch, but loft is the most effective.

I'm not opposed to a 4 wood, maybe even a 5. I'll have to keep that in mind, but the reason for asking about a high launch 3 is my quest for a max distance fw.

Highest launch 3 wood I have ever hit was the Taylor Made R7 CGB Max. It isn't the best looking club, but man did it have a high trajectory. It is titanium and was very long if you needed extra carry.

I used to have a Geek 3 wood with an Aldila NVS that was a high launcher.

There are plenty of good recommendations here. Maybe try an offset FW like Bang Storm to get the cg back a little further. . . comes in 16* 3w with offset. Put a soft-tip shaft in that thing, and it'll go up. Who knows WHERE it will go, but up seems pretty likely. In my case, my 5w distance is almost identical to my 3w distance. Since the 5w is more consistent, I just use that and forego the extra 10 yards I get once a month from the 3w. quote:

Depending on your swingspeed and your skill, in most cases max distance from a 3wood would come from a lower launching, not higher. Guys promote higher launching fw woods because of slower swingspeeds and/or less skill at airing a 3wood. Lower profile are easier to hit, they are most definitely not longer.

I'm 105+/- w/driver and I think I'm ok with FWs, but I think I should/can get more distance with more height... as is the general thinking with drivers. Why do you say max distance would come from lower launch?

Snake Eyes Viper XTi w/ heavier weight screw. The face height is slightly lower than my 949MC 4 wood and it hits even higher with the NVS 85 in it....or you go 4 wood with more loft

Not to speak for him, but many of these higher launchers create crazy spin resulting in balloons that stop on a dime about 30 yards short of where some the more penetrating shots end up. I struggled to find something that was a good compromise and gave up, went for the hotter/flatter shot. I like the SMT solitare, but many say that its a low launcher so I'm probably the wrong guy to talk to. quote:
