Yes, some people dislike Tiger for a variety of reasons (most of which are beyond my comprehension). They don't "hate" him. That's hyperbole.
However, when they complain about the "excessive" media coverage they're really just masking their dislike for Tiger.
I would argue the coverage is not excessive at all.
Just look at the facts: He's won 14 majors -- that's 11 more than any other active tour member.
He makes shots that stun and amaze even his fellow competitors.
He's most likely the best clutch putter in majors since Nicklaus.
He plays with compelling flair, excitement and drama.
And he might be the most-focused competitor since Ben Hogan.
Man, is it any wonder TV follows his every move?
He is the best in the world, and nobody is even a remote second.
When the lights go out on his career, he might be considered the best golfer who ever lived.
TV can't get enough of this guy and the producers and editors know there may never be another golfer like him.
I don't know why people don't like Tiger. Maybe they wouldn't have liked Nicklaus or Bobby Jones either. That's their problem.
But I do know why we get high-volume coverage of Tiger.
He's the biggest story in golf, and, with all due respect to Arnie Jack, televised golf has never had a star like Tiger.
So when people complain about "too much" coverage of Tiger I think most (not all) of them are really expressing their dislike for Woods.
When Tiger plays, he's the big story and it's likely to be that way for the next 4 or 5 years.
This is by far the best post in this thread, even coming from a gator lol.

Most of the guys I know that hate Tiger, when pressed, usually end up admitting that it has much more to do with the coverage of Tiger than anything Tiger has done himself. He may very well be the greatest golfer of all time...he seems to do things that nobody else can especially when it needs to be done most.
He is amazing in that way

Tiger Woods is (aside from being one of the top five most talented individuals that have ever picked up a golf club ever, being fortunate enough to have a drive fostered by his father from the word "go," being paid more money than any of us will likely never earn, lucky enough to marry "up" like few of us will ever know, and having the media, lunatic fans, and lunatic haters dissecting every move he makes on the job) probably not too different from any of us.
He works his tail off to get to as close to the top of his chosen field, as do most of us on this forum. He happens to be in a field that (right or wrong) gets a hell of a lot of media attention, for which nobody has just cause to blame him. We're to blame for turning the tube on in numbers never before seen in our sport, and endorsing the advertisers who without question would rather we did tune in to a player not even sporting their brand (for crying out loud, if it raises your blood pressure, turn off the TV and go hit some lob wedges in the yard...you'll live longer).
He donates unreal amounts of money to charity (#5 on the Forbes list of the top 100 celebrity donors). His skill and the money rewarded for it has paid off in unknown numbers of kids getting a chance where there had been none.
He comes off as an ingrate jerk to some, who demand of his time at the wrong juncture of his work day. So do I. I'll gamble every poster to this thread has been perceived as an a-hole to someone this week, and did not deserve the moniker. For the times I've come off as a p***k to someone, I make no explanations. I'd apologize for making someone mad, but am not gonna walk around all day worrying about people who don't know me. So call me arrogant. You are too. It's just never done when the world can see you.
He's the number one in the WORLD at what he does. There's not many of us that can claim to be the best ANYthing in our hometown, much less our own state/province/etc.. He's got a little room for ruling the roost and knowing it. You'd bluster if you shot your lowest career 18 to every golfer you know, so spare the world the snipes for a man who worked hard to achieve at a GLOBAL level.
He is blessed with a talent, works hard, gives back more than any of his contemporaries, and is lucky/misfortunate to have the world watching him.
In my mind, he ranks no higher or lower than my dad, who made the most of his talents to improve the world the most his field and giving back as much as he was able to benefit as many kids as he could. Pop just never made $100M a year doing it.
So a hater or worshiper I could not claim to be. I'm somehow aware that he's likely a regular guy that has had a tremendous amount of success, and subject to the same pitfalls we all would be subject to. Either way, there are way too many other things in life to make me worry about how much media exposure Tiger gets or doesn't get, or that when people interrupt his work he can be less than convivial. Just the way I see things.
