ORIGINAL: FrankoSport Greetings .... Back during the first glory days of Tiger in the late 1990s, PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem approved the sanctioning of more tournaments, official or otherwise, than the 365-day, 52-week calendar could handle. I have done some hypothetical figuring and have determined the PGA Tour should have no more than 40 official events contested each year. The tournaments that leave the schedule could be handed off to not one but perhaps two or even three tours -- Nationwide, Champions and/or LPGA. Also, if Q-School is indeed going to be phased out and the Nationwide Tour is to be relied on even more, then the exemption categories need to be re-done so that only the Top 90 Money Leaders (rather than Top 125) are fully exempt, and several other categories added or revised to provide more playing opportunities for Nationwide Tour members. One of my personal ideas is the creation of a category where certain eligible current year Nationwide players can get into PGA Tour events, then possibly go on to achieve Special Temporary Member Status and then perhaps Top 90 fully exempt status for the next season. Of course making Top 90 Equivilancy vs Top 125 would be a considerable task, but with heart, soul, dedication and determination it could be done. Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport Frank the nationwide already gets battle field promotion to the big tour when they win their third event of a season. Also they can Monday qualify finish in the top ten, (Dicky Pride is on a roll) for an automatic to the next event. Upon accumulating a certain amount of money depending on the time of year they can qualify for temporary membership. I think Hansen from the Euro tour did qualify this way this season or is very close. Can you expand on your idea of certain Nationwide players getting into PGA events? Something like if you win a nationwide event you get an invite to certain PGA events remaining?
