Somewhere Tommy Bolt is looking down and saying, "Pffft....amateur"

It was an homage to Bobby Jones.

BJ was a hothead, indeed. TW is just a dikhead.

[;)]

Can't help but wonder if you were stating such in 2001?

My opinion of him is based on his recent behavior. Makes no difference what I thought of him before he 'came out'.

Who cares about all this? Have you checked out TA 7s Avatar?

From the look of the picture of Woods kicking his club, it looks like he actually shanked it. [:)] Right now Woods is so frustrated he is acting like a spoiled brat about 12 years old. In fairness to Woods when he swears it is nothing compared to Bobby Jones. Today swearing is pretty much acceptable, back in the 20's if a young child said darn they generally got their mouth washed out with soap. I don't know if the movie they made about Jones was factual but what he did makes Woods look almost normal comparing the two eras.

I suppose the rants made by Bobby Jones were not discussed in the newspapers; he played before TV; right?

Before TW, golf was a gentelmen's game and honor and integrety were very important..... ...not so much now and $ is one big reason... Frankly, professional golf is just like any other sport now... and that is a shame!

Then and now.

It is less known because Jones famously held it in after the USGA told him he was through competing in their events otherwise. In those days, the am game was far bigger than the pro game. The USGA was initially founded as an am organization (specifically: Amatuer Golf Association of the United States) and was barely called the USGA at that juncture with Jones.

We live in a media age, so Tiger is more visible as the arguably most recognized golfer of last 30 years. Probably more. More visible means the warts are evident as well. No organization or event would puff up the courage to send the same letter to Woods because this is now a commercial venture. Big business. And bad for business to exclude Woods, whether that is pleasant to impossible for weekenders to digest or not.

The online community can rail against Woods all they want. Even in disproportion and lack of knowing all of the business reality that drives the whole game these days.

I don't know what you were watching but I saw quite a few of the golfers bang clubs on the ground in frustration, curse and not yell "Fore", "Left" or "Right" on bad drives.

If you play golf you should now how frustrated you can get and probably have done the same things yourself a few times.

Tiger is held to a higher standard then any other golfer which is the reward for having been one of the best.

Unfortunately the media coverage of Woods is greater than any other golfer playing and therefore you see his bad moments as much as you see his good. In any sport you find athelets playing at their highest level get frustrated and angry.

This subject has been beaten to death, maybe you should find some other high horse to ride and get off tigers back finally.

Do I like seeing this behavior in any sport? NO, but I do see it in every sport.

He kicked his club...big deal. Let's see, how about the guys who slam and bury the club in the ground after a bad shot. Or how about Davis Love slamming his club an a sprinkler head and breaking it. Or the guys that throw their putters in the air after a missed putt. What about Woody Austin banging his putter shaft off his own head and bending it?

How about Hanson throwing his ball in to the creek on 12 after putting out... Same thing... Temper gets the better of you for a second.

They lambaste him because he's Tiger.

..for the most part, these other demonstrations of anger, bad temper and unsortsmen-like conduct are somewhat isolated... .....Not so with TW. ...unfortunately, this has become his calling card.

Didn't he throw a club into the crowd last year? ...if this continues, he will probably hurt someone soon. ...hopefully the injured fan will sue the PGA and TW and that will FINALLY cause the Tour to act appropriately and STOP this forever.

If Bobby Jones stopped this after receiving a letter from the PGA telling him he could no longer compete because of his unsportmen like outbursts, then TW and ALL other PGA players can also.

There was no PGA at the time that the USGA sent the letter to Jones.

Not to mention the fact that Jones would have never been a member if it did exist in his day.

Very well said....

He had the talent...but never the class...nor the etiquette the game dictates.

His book about himself and how he was raised to be kind, god fearing and able to block out all the noises that would affect the game of others but not him, should all now be moved from the biography section to the fiction section.

Hes not only a joke...he's an insult to golf.

I'm done with Mr. Wonderful. Even if he wins more majors than Jack, he doesn't have the class to honor the record.

I've been trying to tell you this since 2002 Rory[sm=hump.gif].

What level of an offense would warrant a play suspension? I would personally not like to see that unless the level of offense rises to verbal abuse of patrons or putting them at risk from physical harm from thrown club. Does Tiger's kick rise to that level? IMO it looked bad but I don't think anyone was at risk from being struck by his club. I do agree that fines should be made public.

He certainly did that in Australia in 2009 when he flung his driver into the ground so hard it flew into the air and back over several rows of people.
He's actually been far better behaved recently but people are starting to be less accepting as they gradually realise that maybe golf really doesn't need him
any longer.
